First Nations Dance Program

In 2022, we undertook a First Nations Dance Community Consultation with SA-based dance artists, to understand their needs and challenges. This consultation has informed the development of a broader extended program to benefit the First Nations dance community as a whole.

In 2023, we created our First Nations Dance Program supported by BlakDance (QLD) and Australian Dance Theatre, coordinated by proud Ngarrindjeri, Narungga and Kaurna woman Caleena Sansbury, supported by The Mill CEO/Artistic Director.

In 2025, the program continues with the aim to support First Nations dancers and dance groups who reside in South Australia by offering them the following - as identified needs through consultation;

  • Business development skills workshops

  • Residencies at The Mill

  • Culturally safe dance technique classes at The Mill and AC Arts

  • Culturally safe choreography and composition labs at The Mill

Through this program, artists are supported to explore new ideas, interrogate existing work, explore new collaborative relationships, and/or research their movement practice in connection to Country and kin. They are supported to make new work and explore dance practice to develop new or existing ideas or processes and make space for experimentation and culturally engaged collaboration.

LIMITLESS 2025 Artist Call-out

Following the success of our LIMITLESS 2024 exhibition, we are inviting South Australian artists to contribute A5-size artworks to LIMITLESS 2025 - our Fundraiser Exhibition to be held in September.

The exhibition is a celebration of work by local SA artists including: our studio artists and alumni artists, visual arts students and graduates, local artists, studio collectives and the wider arts community.

Each artwork submitted will be A5-sized, and will be sold for $100. We will profile involved artists in the lead up to the launch, but artists' names and details will be kept anonymous in the exhibition.

Artists' names and details will be revealed after works are purchased. When an artwork is sold, the artist will receive 50% ($50) and we will receive 50% ($50). This contributes to our annual fundraising target, ensuring we can continue to support and create opportunities for artists.

Reception and Gallery Supervisor Role

Reception and Gallery Supervisors are the face of The Mill and play a key role in welcoming people to our venue.

Reception and Gallery Supervisors work closely with our team in completing a wide range of venue-oriented duties, in and around our spaces and alongside our artistic community.

This is a 1-3 day/PW volunteering role, please send a CV and/or short bio and list any relevant experience working in creative environments, arts organisations, galleries and or hospitality.

Applications will be assessed on arrival.
