We are thrilled to announce Joshua Di Mattina-Beven and Mym Kwa as the recipients of the Brand X Exchange Residency.
Presented in partnership between Brand X and The Mill, this residency creates vital interstate pathways for independent artists and will bring Sydney-based artists to The Mill in South Australia to network, develop and show new work.
Joshua and Mym will also present a workshop to share their creative process with South Australian artists as part of the exchange.
About the artists:

Joshua Di Mattina-Beven is an artist and creative producer currently working on unceded Gadigal land. Joshua graduated from UNSW Art and Design with a double degree in Fine Arts/Arts (Sculpture/Performance Studies), winning the Ross Steele Fine Art Prize for highest achievement in Fine Art. They have gone on to receive highly commended at the Gosford Emerging Prize for their ensemble wrestling performance Tussle. Their recent projects include a performative reading for Critical Path’s 20th Birthday Festival Every Wild Idea, and WaterWorks, a 7 person endurance fountain for Shopfront’s ARTSLAB Festival 2026.

Mym Kwa is a multidisciplinary artist working across theatre and screen as an actor, dancer, performance artist and facilitator. She holds an Advanced Diploma of Performing Arts from ED5International. As a dancer and deviser, Mym has worked closely with Danielle Micich’s Force Majeure, performing in their works Gardener’s Apprentice (2025) and POWER (Sydney Biennale 2024). In 2024, she created and performed her debut solo dance work The Girl is/a Glitch (Shopfront ArtsLab Residency) – a 3+ hour endurance movement installation.
Drawn together by their aligned creative desires to unpack queer relations, build intimate worlds and question choreographic practice, Mym and Josh have been working as collaborators for 2 years. Most recently, Mym and Josh worked together for WaterWorks in 2026 and during their Moving Ideas Residency at ReadyMade Works in 2025.
