call-out, performing arts residency

Centre Stage Residency

The Centre Stage Residency is presented in collaboration with The Mill and ARTS Unlimited, the Adelaide Fringe Foundation.

The residency is a four-week incubator program for South Australian artists to progress a work in its second or third stage of development to the next level, culminating in a season at The Mill as part of the 2024 Adelaide Fringe Festival.

The first two weeks of development occur in 2023 followed by a work-in-progress showing at The Mill to test ideas on audiences and develop an audience following. The second two weeks of development occur in 2024 to prepare the work for presentation in the 2024 Adelaide Fringe Season at The Mill.

We are most interested in genre-pushing, cross-artform work that blends, merges or investigates connectivity across performance / art-making modes and encourage artists to be ambitious with their proposals.

Between The Mill and Adelaide Fringe Arts Industry Collaborations, The Artists are supported with the following supports to the value of up to $15,000, which includes:

Cash support ($4000):

  • $4000 artist honorarium: Used for artist wages and any extra development costs on top of the in-kind venue hire.

Venue & staffing (including in-kind):

  • Four weeks venue hire (2 x two-week residencies in The Breakout).

  • A work-in-progress showing presented by The Mill at the conclusion of the first 2 week residency.

  • Production, admin and marketing support for the residency and up to two-weeks Fringe season at The Mill.

  • Contribution towards documentation or design for Fringe season promotion with support from The Mill Marketing and Communications Manager.

  • Videographer/editor to produce showreel / Fringe trailer, provided by The Mill.

  • Professional photographer at the conclusion of the first development.

  • Performance venue subsidy: used towards the hire of The Breakout at The Mill for an Adelaide Fringe 2024 season.

Please note: Fringe Artist registration is not included and the artist will need to register the show for the Adelaide 2024 Fringe once registration is open.
